“We live in a material world.” The Story of
Stuff by Annie Leonard, although short was able to give a precise and concise
explanation on how stuff works. The clip was able to provide a thorough and
mind blowing description while providing an entertaining presentation.
As time and generation went by, humanity
was able to come out with a process on how to produce things that we enjoy
today. Thus, the society was able to attract most people to lust every material
thing, hereby increasing the demand beyond the basic needs. With the increase
in demand, basically, production will increase.
The process of production has issues with
sustainability. Consuming and using more than the generation’s need without
considering the needs of the other generation. The production process was also
harming the community through usage of harmful chemicals and other practices
that are unhealthy. Lastly, disposal of
these goods are imposing problems. Proper disposal has been problem in every
community, society and in every country.
However, because of today’s concern to the
environment, humanity was also able to come out with processes that are
environmentally and ecologically friendly; giving lesser negative impacts to
the community and allowing other generation to have a healthier place and
planet.
To end, the society often associated
happiness with the number of material things that we own; we therefore confide
ourselves to the conventional and common connotation that happiness has value.
With the short clip, it shows that time is well spent with people rather than
with our material things.
